Money Stolen By Best Buy Under The Guise of “Free Antivirus Software”
Don’t Get Scammed this holiday season with best buy’s free antivirus system. Best buy has been frauding customers out of money for over ten years with this anti-virus scam. Found a post about this post here at : dslreports . What best buy does, is when you buy any computer product or just about any hardware, Best-Buy automatically adds a “free anti-virus” program to your purchase. During the initial transaction you do not think anything of it because, they said it was “free”. In some instances customers were not even told they had this new “anti-virus” program tapped on their credit cards for automatic renewals every 6 months!.
The Anti Virus Scam Part
BestBuy.com does not tell you, that the credit card used for that purchase, no matter if it is an online sale or an in-store sale is tied to an antivirus subscription that you did not agree to “for continued updates”. The “best buy antivirus” scam is at the moment you swipe or submit your credit card information online. The renewals can range from $29.99 to $49.99 every 6 months! The issue of course, is that they don’t tell you this is not really free but a “free trial” of the “antivirus” software that you have to pay for.
Speaking With Best Buy
After speaking with best buy about trying to get a refund (on hold for over 2 hours) to get somebody. To my surprise even the Best Buy representative over the phone agreed it is a shady practice and that he wished they would stop doing that. He has had to deal with hundreds of refunds this holiday related to this very exact issue and verified that the Antivirus “service” has been running for a long time, but many customers do not even catch it. So there could potentially be thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people being charged for a anti-virus service they never even asked for, or don’t even need! Especially if you are running a Windows 10 Operating system which has anti-virus already essentially built in.
If you really need to purchase electronics this year, only use best buy as a way to look at products, but buy your products on Amazon. They provide better customer service and do not run scam checkouts to try to steal your hard earned money. If you really need that product right now, opt of everything best buy offers you and make sure your receipt is clear of any “add-on” services you did not intend to purchase before leaving the store. Don’t let best buy scam you this year, this is one shitty practice that should be abolished for good. FUCK YOU BEST BUY!
