Why Celebrations in NFL Football Are Not A Bad Thing

We Need Celebrations Back!

The NFL, one of the largest business entities in the United States has become too corporate for many. As any kid that played backyard football knows, one of the reasons you played so hard was not only for the glory of the touchdown but the ability to release your excitement through horrible dance moves. The celebration was to show accomplishment over something. Listen, I get it, showboats can detract from the team element and bring down the moral of the opposing team, and undershadow the other players abilities that got you there. But isn’t that what coaches have preached since pee-wee football? “10% physical 90% mental”. This is the mantra you heard every practice. Get inside the other players heads, break them down mentally, so that they make mistakes that you can take advantage of.

Showboat players like Terrell owens, Deion sanders, Joe Montana, they all brought attention to a sport that has grown into america’s pastime.. Not only did these players dominate at their positions during the height of their career, but they brought a little controversy to the field as well. People would tune into these teams because they wanted to know what antics a popular player may do that day. Which brings us to “Ezekiel Elliott’s Salvation Army Touchdown Celebration”. The moment it happened the news blew up about it. He did not showboat, he did not, ridicule the other team, he maybe unintentionally brought attention to a good cause like the Salvation Army. But in the end it was all in good fun and that is what football celebrations should be about; having fun.

When something becomes too corporate and very gray it becomes boring. The NFL worries about the huge drop in viewership this year? Well bring back some of the elements that made the game exciting. We are not asking for head hunters again, but bring back the celebrations. So that when your team and a popular players scores, the people at home came join in. Some of the greatest marketing is not in the visuals, or how well polished and presented something is. Sometimes, the best marketing is the realism and connection it can have with the people enjoying the product.

Bring Back The Celebrations and let the NFL players enjoy their game again!
